“A wartime classic – truly inspiring” was Andy McNab’s verdict on Adam Hart’s book, “Operation Pimento: my great-grandfather’s great escape”! So on Wednesday 8th July we are truly thrilled to present an evening talk by the author himself, the acclaimed 25-year-old author and Pembrokeshire historian, Adam Hart.
Adam will recount the epic escape of his great grandfather, Squadron Leader Frank Griffiths, from occupied Europe in 1943 after his Halifax bomber was shot down dropping supplies to the French Resistance.
It will also describe Adam’s own journey retracing his great grandfather’s footsteps 80 years later, tracking down and meeting descendants of the heroic French civilians who saved him.
After studying History and Journalism at university, Adam set out to retrace his great grandfather Frank Griffiths’ epic escape from occupied Europe after he was shot down dropping supplies to the French Resistance in 1943. On Adam’s journey he tracked down and met many descendants of the heroic French civilians who risked their lives to save Frank.
It was these emotional encounters that inspired him to write his first book, Operation Pimento, published by Hodder and Stoughton in June 2025. It has been shortlisted for the Hatchard’s First Biography Prize.
This riveting tale of bravery, sacrifice and determination is brought to you as the latest talk from the Pembrokeshire Aviation Group.
