New exhibit tells story of flying boat hero David Burrows

Family members from all over the UK have met up at Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre to view a new display centred on an RAF Officer who was the last navigator on board the Sunderland flying boat T9044 before it sank at its moorings on the 12 November 1940. Many parts of this aircraft are now on view in the Centre.

Brother and sister Ross Burrows, from Grimsby, and Nikki Soysa, who lives in the Hebrides, were joined by cousin Shirley Shelley Hutchinson, from Yorkshire, and Ross’ wife, Dianne – all members of the family of the late Wing Commander David Burrows. He was the navigator on Sunderland T9044 on its last flight to Pembroke Dock in November 1940, sinking in the Haven days later.

The family have donated David Burrows’ logbook, uniforms and other memorabilia now incorporated in the display, alongside many other T9044 artefacts.

Said Ross: “The museum team has made a wonderful exhibit about dad and his story. It is a fantastic place and the enthusiasm shines through of all the team involved there. We will be sending more family members to visit!”

The Heritage Centre is open Mondays to Fridays, 10am to 4 pm.
