Lindy Hoppers In The Mood!

Swing dancing was king in wartime and the Pembrokeshire Lindy Hoppers will be getting ‘In The Mood’ at the 1940s Big Band Dance – to be held in the Pembroke Port Pavilion in Pembroke Dock’s Royal Dockyard on Saturday June 21st.

The Lindy Hoppers, led by Angie and Gerald Bowen, will be giving a dance display as well as joining in the fun, as the Forties era and its memorable music is revived in this 80th anniversary year of the end of World War II. They’re looking forward to jumpin’ and jivin’ to the Phil Dando Big Band as they recreate the great Glenn Miller style, and local girl Peri Lynn’s heart-stopping tribute to Vera Lynn.

Want to see the Lindy Hoppers’ fancy footwork at the 1940’s Big Band Night? Tickets are available at £25 from the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre (01646 684220) or online (additional small booking fee applies for online tickets).

And if you get the swing dance bug, remember that every Thursday the Lindy Hoppers hold classes at Pembroke Dock’s Pater Hall, from 6.15pm to 9pm – teaching the ‘Lindy Hop’ and other dances.

The 1940’s Big Band Night is a never-to-be-repeated opportunity to capture the ‘wartime spirit’! By attending, you’re also helping support the Pembroke Dock Heritage Trust, which is dedicated to preserving the remarkable history of RAF Pembroke Dock and the Royal Dockyard, two key pillars of our community’s heritage. Every ticket contributes to the upkeep of our exhibits and the ongoing effort to ensure these stories are remembered and celebrated.
